Making a Fairy Costume Guide

As Halloween is approaching soon, lots of little girls are wishing to wear one of the well-known outfits, the fairy costume. Without any doubts, the fairy dress is always on top of any Halloween get-up ideas because of Disney’s cartoon, Tinkerbell and the Barbie Doll fairies.

Fairy Costume Can Be Created Out of Dance Class Uniforms

Fairy costume pattern is just easy to make. It only requires a little supply. When your daughter has ballet or jazz or any dance classes, you already have a leotard, tights and dance shoes or ballet slippers. These three are the basis for the dairy costume pattern.

To make your fairy costume pattern, you need several pieces of cardboard which you may cut from cereal boxes or just any other cardboard which you can find anywhere in your house. You have to measure the distance from your daughter’s waist to her knee. But remember to have an extra inch allowance at the top so you can sew the waistband.

Outline for Fairy Costume

The fairy costume ideally requires flower petals and leaves. You need to cut the flower petals in dimensional proportions of 6″ X 12″.  Cut the bottom in a rounded shape same as a flower petal. The uppermost layer of the skirt is the leaves and so you should cut it into 4″ X 8″.  In creating the leaf pattern, ensure that you have the bottom portion look like how a leaf naturally looks as if it is attached to the plant.

If you already have the final patterns, make use of a fabric pencil or a pen to trace the petal image on two complimentary colors that would make a beautiful floral appearance. But you don’t have to cut the fabric at this time. Repeatedly trace the flower petal across the length of the green fabric.
When all patterns have been traced, just cut only the lower edges off of the three pieces of material. Remember that the finished patterns include three pieces of fabric with one straight edge and one edge made for petal or leaf.

Have each pieces of fabric layered down, while off-setting the flower petals. This way, both colors can be seen in a layered fashion. Have a thin line sewn along the top baseline of the petals, along the waistline of the skirt. Place a thick piece of elastic on the waistline.

Use a straight pin to secure it. Fold over the upper part of the skirt so you can make a cover over the elastic. Have the waist of the skirt brought down upon itself. Sew the top waistband down. Remember to ensure that the elastic can lie down even if it’s not sewn into the waistband. Close the top of the waistband with the use of Velcro. When your child already has the costume on, pin or tie the elastic.

Ways to Accessorize Your Little Girl’s Fairy Costume

The finishing touches for your fairy costume includes a magic wand, floral headpiece and tulle wings. Whatever accessories you put on your fairy costume, your daughter will surely be very happy and she’s now ready to become a fairy.
